Extraordinary work becomes even more meaningful when we know the person behind it.
The idea first took shape through music. What began as trumpet lessons grew into friendship, revealing something no concert, recording, or masterclass could fully provide. Those who reach the highest levels of their craft often approach their work differently. What if you could come closer to that way of thinking — ask questions, share a meal, hear the stories behind the work, and understand more of the person who created it?
Proxima was created to make that kind of encounter possible.
The name comes from the Latin proximus — nearest, closest, next — and is echoed in Proxima Centauri, the star nearest our Sun. It reflects the idea at the center of every Proxima Residency: bringing people closer to the people, places, and work that draw them in.
A Proxima Residency is intentionally small. For five nights, guests and featured professionals stay in residence together in a setting chosen to be part of the experience itself. There is programming, but there is also room for meals, conversation, exploration, rest, and the moments that cannot be planned.
It began with music, but the idea was never limited to music. A Proxima Residency might be built around a musician, chef, author, actor, artist, or someone whose work invites us to look more closely.
